Motivation

Definition= an employees desire and will to work for the company. There are 2 types of motivation; financial motivation and non-financial motivation. Financial motivation could be giving an employee a pay rise. Non-financial motivation is where a company could give an employee fringe benefits (an extra benefit on top of a wage/salary).

How can motivated staff be good for a company?

able to talk to one another happily to discuss how to improve the company.

job satisfaction would be sufficient in the work place

labour productivity will increase

Theory behind motivation-

HERZBERG- 2-factor theory. These are split into the motivators and hygiene & maintenance.

Motivators= Herzberg theorized that responsibility, recognition of good work and direct motivation are all motivators. This means that they all directly motivate people to work harder.

Hygiene & maintenance= Herzberg theorized that good working conditions, job security and a work policy were all to do with ensuring that employees are working for the company to the best of their ability. These all mean that they can de-motivate employees if not present but these are not used to actually motivate people.

Herzberg would suggest that motivators are used to motivate whereas hygiene and maintenance factors are used to ensure hard work is produced.
