In scientific research you must need a design to create true knowledge.
''Design'' refers to a strategy or plan conceived to respond research questions.
There are types two types of research designs, experimental and non experimental, which are divided also for example the experimental ones are: pre-experiments, pure or true experiments, quasi-experiments and the non experimental are divided in qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative ones are: case study, journals, etnography and interviews. While the quantitave ones are: focus groups, case study and correlational.
CHARACTERISTICS OF EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH:
Random assignment
Control of extraneous variables
Manipulation of treatment
Measurement of outcomes
Comparison of participant groups
Possible threats to validty
QUALITATIVE RESEARCH:
Focuses in comprehending and going deeper into the phenomena, exploring them from personal perspective in a natural environment in relation with their context. It is usually used when the researcher is trying to focus on experiences, meanings.
QUANTITAVE RESEARCH:
It uses data collection to prove hypothesis based on numerical measurement and statistical analysis. It is used to identify dehavioral patterns and to prove theories.
TRANSACTIONAL RESEARCH:
Collects data in just one moment, at a unique time. Its purpose is to describe variables and analyze its incidence and interrelaton in a given time. There are two types: descriptive and correlational.
LONGITUDINAL RESEARCH:
The researcher analyzes changes through time in determined variables or the relation between them. Data is collected through time in special or certain period. There are 3 types: trend, cohort and panel design.
