Passwords: Hackers and criminals invest lots of time in obtaining peoples passwords and it is a first line of defense for your information.

Never include any facts about you for your passwords.

Dont write it down.

Dont give it away.

Use different passwords.

Use a phrase, dont use a word in the dictionary, mix numbers, lower and uppercase letters and special characters.

The biggest risk to children online: Online bullying, being groomed.

The biggest risk to adults online: Identity theft and fraud.

( ID stolen and used to commit fraud eg. spend your money).

This can happen through Phishing emails, which are designed to get you to put in your personal details.

Malware : Viruses - Anti virus software

Downloads, email attachments, and removable media ( Memory stick, SD).

Trojans: These are viruses that disguise themselves as useful files.

These are programs designed to slow down a computer system and/or steal personal data.

Firewall is a piece of software, that blocks permit connections. They're there to prevent unauthorized access eg. Hacking, remote installation of files.

For example: Parental controls.

Password protect your network. Change the default password. Hide the SSID of the router.

Anti-virus protects against viruses.
