- 1What objects are in the night sky?Stars, moons, planets, dirt, ice, rock, comets, meteorites, asteroids
- 2Why can we see some objects only at night?Because the sky is so bright
- 3What is a galaxy?A system of millions or billions of stars, together with gas and dust, held together by gravitational attraction
- 4What is the name of our galaxy? The milky way
- 5What are stars made of?Stars are a giant ball of very hot burning gas. Its mostly hydrogen and helium.
- 6What is our star's name?The Sun
- 7How are planets different to stars?Planets have a solid core rather than stars which are just made of burning gases.
- 8What objects make up our solar system?A star (sun), 9 planets, ice, dirt, rock ,comets, asteroids and meteorites.
- 9What causes night and day? Draw a diagram to illustrate.Day and night is caused by the rotation of the Earth on its axis
- 10Why is it safe to look at a lunar NOT solar eclipse?Because in a solar eclipse the only sun rays showing are the UV rays, and the lunar eclipses just the Earth casting a shadow on the the moon.
- 11Draw the Earth, Sun and Moon during a Lunar eclipse.

- 12Draw the Earth, Sun and Moon during a Solar eclipse.

- 13What causes seasons? The earth's spin axis is tilted with respect to its orbital plane and that the Earth revolves around the Sun.
- 14What is Earth's place in the Solar System? List the planets.Earth is 3rd in the planet line.
It goes-Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
Pluto - 15Describe the effect of the forces of the sun and moon on the hydrosphere. The Sun and Moon pull the water towards them.
- 16What was Aristotle's contribution?Aristotle created the geocentric model of the solar system.
- 17What was Ptolomy's contribution?Ptolomy agreed with Aristotle but doubted some of Aristotle's discovery's so he created epicycles.
- 18What was Copernicus's contribution?Copernicus agreed with Galileo but thought the orbits were perfect circles.
- 19What was Galileo's contribution?Galileo invented the telescope and he also discovered that Earth wasn't at the center of the solar system.
- 20Compare historical and current models of the solar system to show how models have been modified or rejected. Why did the Greeks models fail in predicting the position of the planets? The Greeks models failed because they had the Earth at the center of the solar system not the sun, these were called the geocentric models.
Our models of the solar system with the sun at the center is called the heliocentric. - 21Describe some examples of how technological advances have led to increased scientific understanding of the solar system. We have modern day telescopes and cameras. Our technology is much more advanced. Which has led to a deeper look in space and much more understanding of it.
- 22How do we know about the universe and solar system?Because we have satellites, telescope and computers to help discover it. We also have a clear view into it from the surface of Earth.
- 23Describe the telescope's importance? Where is the Hubble telescope.Telescopes give us a deep look in space to investigate all different things.
The Hubble telescope is in Earth's orbit in space about 406 000km up and it looks out into space. - 24Describe how advancements in technology have led to a greater understanding of the Universe. We have more technology like telescopes-We can get a deep look into space which shows us answers about size, shape, distance ect.
