What does cartilage do in the lungs? Where are they found? Support and holds bronchi open and prevents them collapsing Bronchi and trachea
Where is smooth muscle found? In the walls of trachea, bronchi and bronchioles
What is the smooth muscle's function? To narrow the lumen
Where is elastic fibre found? Walls and airways and alveoli
What does the elastic fibre's function? When elastic fibre recoils, the airways widen and air is forced put of alveoli
Where are goblet cells? Throughout the ciliated epithelium
What do goblet cells do? Secrete sticky mucus to trap particles and prevent drying out
Where are ciliated epithelium cells found? Lining the trachea, bronchus and bronchioles
What does ciliated epithelium do? The cilia moves to waft mucus up the airway back to the throat
