- 1Transmitting Dataagreed factors
1. The direction of the data transmission (i.e. in one direction only or in both directions)
2. The method of transmission (how many bits are sent at the same time.)
3. The method of synchronisation between the two devices. - 2Simplex, Half-duplex & Full-duplexSimplex data transmission is in one direction only:
Computer sending instructions to a printers.
Half-duplex transmission
Walkie-talkie as only one person can talk at a time.
Full duplex data transmission is in both direction simultaneously .
Facetime. - 3Asynchronous Data TransmissionAsynchronous data transmission refers to data being transmitted in an agreed bit pattern.
Data bits (1s and 0s) are grouped together and sent with control bits. - 4Synchronous Data TransmissionThe data is continuous.
The data is receiving and sending.
if there's delays in the transmissions this could effect the quality of data. - 5SerialData is a sent one bit at a time over a single wire/channel.
bits are sent one after the other in a single stream.
works well over long distances.
this type of data transmission is slow.
An example of its use is sending data from a CPU and the memory. - 6Parallelseveral bits of data (usually of byte) are sent down several wires or channels at the same time.
Work well over short distances.
Over long distances, the bits can be become skewed- this means they will no longer be synchronised.
