Causes Small eruptions triggered many lava domes in the stratovolcano.
Primary Effects 2/3 of the whole Island (mainly southern) was covered in ash, tephra, and lava. 50% of the pop was evacuated to the safe North of Montserrat. 23 people died. Plymouth, the capital, became a ghost-town and the main airport was closed down.
