Question Answer
What elements are in the noble gases? helium (He), neon (Ne), argon (Ar), krypton (Kr), xenon (Xe), and the radioactive radon (Rn).
Block and position in the periodic table? In group 18 or 0, due to d-block elements and the fact that their shell is full in the p-block
Electrons in outer shell The noble gases have a full outer shell, which can be 2, 8 or even 18 in the outermost shell
Properties They are all odourless, colourless, monatomic(atoms not bound to each other) gases with very low chemical reactivity
Reactivity Full shell results in very little tendency to be involved in chemical reactions
Stability The noble gases are very stable in every sense due to the full outer shell giving very little valency
Other properties The melting and boiling points for a given noble gas are close together, meaning they are liquids over only a small temperature range.
Radon Is a radioactive element, and due to less electromagnetic forces participates in reactions easier
