What are chromosomes? Chromosomes are long, thin, thread-like structures found in the nuclei of all cells in the human body.
How many chromosomes, sex chromosomes and autosomes in the human body? 46 chromosomes(Half from mother and half from father) 2 sex chromosomes(XX and XY) 44 Chromosomes
Characteristics of homologous chromosomes. Have the same length Have a structure called the centromere in the same position Have genes for particular characteristics at the same location along their lengths
Where is DNA found? It is found in the nucleus of cells and is sometimes found in the mitochondria.
What are genes? Genes are sections of DNA arranged along the chromosomes.
What is the difference between 1 gene and the next? Order of bases along the DNA strand Number of bases in that section of DNA
What are the proteins used to create the structures and perform the actions needed for cells to survive, grow and function? Structural, such as collagen and keratin Enzymes such as amylase and lactase Regulatory, such as growth hormone and insulin.
