What is visual literacy? Visual Literacy is the ability to understand how visual texts are composed and how viewers will respond to it.

Reading Path The sequence that our eyes follow when we look at a picture
Vectors Vectors are lines, visual or otherwise, that create reading paths -lines e.g. visible or otherwise -Gaze -arrangements of elements
Gaze Gaze is where characters are looking in a picture. It helps establish a relationship with the responder.
Demand Gaze of demand is when a character is looking straight at the responder. It is used by composers to ensure the responder enters into a relationship with the character.
Offer Gaze of offer is when a character is looking away from the responder
Colour Colour is used to show different moods -Blue ~ truth, tranquillity, melancholy -red ~ passion, danger, love, hostility -Green ~ Fertility, money, envy -purple ~ wealth, royalty, intelligence - Black ~ death, strength, supernatural, formality - White ~ purity, chastity, bland - orange ~ maturity ( autumn ), zany -Yellow ~ happiness, cheerfulness
