Spoken and written language: MANNER OF PRODUCTION	- Speaker has available to him full range of "voice quality"-effects (facial exp, gesture...) and can override the effects of the words he speaks
What is a DISCOURSE?	Written and spoken: contextual utterance involving defined communication
