Civil and Criminal Law	Criminal laws regulate laws and crimes commited against the government. Civil Law is a dispute between private parties

Consumer Protection	a group of laws and organizations designed to ensure the rights of consumers so that businesses will be fair
Draconian Laws	A code of laws prepared by Draco, the celebrated lawgiver of Athens, that, by modern standards, are considered exceedingly severe. The term draconian has come to be used to refer to any unusually harsh law.
Establishment Clause	-the clause in the First Amendment of the US Constitution that prohibits the establishment of religion by Congress.

Judicial review	review by the US Supreme Court of the constitutional validity of a legislative act.
Jury Duty	Must be 18 years old and a US citizen and cannot be a felon
Legislative	is the part of the government that writes up and votes on laws, also called legislation
Line Veto	Bills subject to veto by Governor; override of veto

Parole	Prisoner is released early from prison but is still considered serving his/her time
Patriot Act	George W. Bush passed the patriot act to defend against terrorism.
Prosecuter	a person, especially a public official, who institutes legal proceedings against someone.
Referendum	a general vote by the electorate on a single political question that has been referred to them for a direct decision.
Retribution	Punishing a person convicted of a crime as payback.
Senate	1/2 of the U.S. legislature and contains 100 members
Separation of Church and State	You have to keep your religion separate from school and you can not force someone into a religion type.
Sherrif's Department-	A department that protects a county or city, and keeps peace within the area.
The Leandro Case	Lawsuit filed by 5 people of low-wealth countries because of unequal pay.
Zoning	Dividing different, larger areas into divided
