Why was defending the Suez Canal very important to the Australians? It was an essential waterway linking Europe to the Indian Ocean. Losing this would make travelling between Australia and Europe very hard.

What was the Battle of Somme? It was a major battle which saw hundreds of thousands of casualties for no real gain
What happened at the end of the battle? At the end of the battle, the armies were at a stalemate
