C1 Sections 1 and 2
  1. Bonding
    1. An ionic bond is the attraction between a positive ion and a negative ion
      1. A covalent bond is a shared pair of electrons between two non-metals to form a full outer shell
        1. Ionic bonds occur between a metal and a non-metal, covalent bonds only occur between non-metals
        2. Ionic structures
          1. Ionic substances have high melting points because they have strong bonds in three dimensions
            1. Properties of ionic substances include high melting and boiling points, being soluble in water and conducting electricity when aqueous or molten
              1. Ionic substances can conduct electricity when molten because high temperatures break the strong bonds between the ions and so the ions are free to move in the liquid
