                          1. To build 12 towns (4 in Scotland - East Kilbride)
                            1. Prefabs
                          2. 1947 Town and Country Planning Act
                            1. Gave local councils power to buy land for housing
                            2. 1949 Housing Act
                              1. Led to repair and modernization of existing homes
                              2. Level of homelessness didn't improve and supplies ran low
                              3. Idleness
                                1. To introduce policies that provide full employment
                                  1. Government nationalized certain industries
                                    1. For example; took over The Bank of England
                                      1. By 1950, 20% of the profits went to provide welfare benefits
                                  2. Disease
                                    1. 1946 National Health Service Act
                                      1. Paid for by National Insurance originally
                                        1. Doctors would be paid 15 shillings for every patient on their list
                                          1. Didn't work and 90% had to be paid from taxes
                                            1. Charges brought in for glasses, dental treatment (1950) and prescriptions (1951)
                                          2. When needed everyone received free

                                                    1. Ambulance services
