Cell Structure

Animal Cell:Cell (Plasma) Membrane: consists of a double layered sheet of phospholipid molecules interspersed with proteins. Separates the cell from the outside environment gives physical protection allows import and export of selected chemicals Nucleus: contains genetic materials and controls the cellular activity the coded instructions enable the cell to make specific proteins RNA is produced in the nucleus and leaves through the nuclear pores nucleus stores, replicates and decodes DNA Mitochondria: consists of a double membrane surrounding a semi fluid matrix The inner membrane is folded inwards to form projections called cristae. Inside this is the matrix This cristae and matrix contain enzymes which enable this organelle to carry out aerobic respiration During respiration, ATP is produced, which is used to provide energy for the cells' reactions. Most of the ATP is produced on the inner mitochondrial membrane. It is highly folded so there is maximum surface area available.

Cytoplasm: It is the site of many chemical reaction each organelle in a cell is suspended in a semi liquid medium called cytoplasm Ribosomes: located along the rough endoplasmic reticulum http://asbiology101.wordpress.com/downloads/
