Banking - all transactions , Airlines - reservations ,schedules
Data is raw material for data processing. Data relates to fact, event and transactions. Data refers to unprocessed information.
Information is data that has been processed in such a way as to be meaningful to the person who receives it. It is any thing that is communicated.
Examples- Vendor address, Date on an employee application
Examples- Vendor record, Employee application record
The process of gathering raw facts or evidence about a subject of interest in systematic way, that enables one to answer stated research questions and evaluate outcomes.
Methods allow us to systematically collect information about our objects of study (people, objects) and about the settings in which they occur.
List of methods - Questionnaire, Observation , Interviews ,Focus group ,Experimental
To support data abstraction so that different users can perceive data at their preferred level of detail.
Terms used: data models schemas instances
shows the logical structure of a database, including the relationships and constraints that determine how data can be stored and accessed.
Categories : High-level or conceptual data models – database designer , low-level or physical data models - programmer
a collection of metadata that describes the relations in a database.
A database state at a specific time defined through the currently existing content and relationship and their attributes.
- Internal level/schema - conceptual level/schema - external level/schema or view level
a collection of programs that enable users to create, maintain database and control all the access to the database.

4. security management
5.transaction management
6. backup and recovery management
7.data integrity management
8.database access languages and application programming interfaces
9. database communication interfaces 10. multiuser access control

control of concurrent users
controlling of redundancy
restricting access (security)
representation of complex relationships and integrity constraints

Cost of DBMS
Higher impact of a failure
Cost of conversion
Additional hardware costs
Big data is similiar to small data but bigger
Why big data
Big Data Analytics
Aplications for big data analytics
Small data is collected with an intended purpose for analysis
Big Data, does not have an intended purpose other than data mining
increase of storange capacities
Increase of processing data
Examining large amount of data
