1. Discriminating sounds of language

Before birth? using Magnetoencephalography (MEG) and Fetal Heart Monitoring

- Fetal auditory system functional: 20wks (Smith et al., 2003)

- Discriminate sound changes: 28wks (Draganova et al., 2007)

- Sensitive to maternal speech (Kisilevsky et al., 2009)

High amplitude sucking (HAS)

Young infants discriminate + categorise speech sounds like adults (Eimas et al., 1971)

- Proficient = only discriminate relevant sounds.
