- 1) What do you look for when you do the magneto check in the power checksMax drop 175RPM and no more than 50RPM difference
- 2What is the limiting amperage for the alternator?55 amps
- 3) What are the suction limits?4.8 to 5.1
- 4What are you looking for with the carb heat check? You are looking for a drop in RPM’s to see if there is an ice build up. If there is as the ice melts the RPM’s would rise while doing the check.
- 5Why do you not leave carb heat on for long applications on the ground? As dust and debris may bypass the filter and enter the cylinder
- 6What do you expect to see in a carb heat check?About a 100RPM drop
- 7Why do you turn the mags off after propeller stop?As if you push the propeller when the mags are still on it may start and could cause injuries.
- 8What is the maximum allowable weight in the rear hold?200lbs (91kgs)
- 9OAT Limits for operation?35 degrees – No Solos for more than 30 minutes
37 degrees – No Solos
40 degrees – The Maximum for duel flights - 10Flap Limit Speed?103 kts
- 11Max RPM’s2700
- 12Why do you not put carb heat on while at full power? As when carb heat is on it reduces your maximum power and overstress the engine
- 13Vno?126kts
- 14Vne?160kts
- 15Max allowable tailwind?5kt
- 16What is the idle rpm range?500/700rpm
- 17What is the max output of the ammeter of the PA28 and what is the school limit?60amps, 55 school limit (pay attention to order of this question)
- 18what instrument runs on a vaccumattitude indicator
- 19what instrument runs on electricityturn indicator and HSI/RMI
- 20what instrument runs on pitot pressurenone
- 21what instrument runs on static pressurealtimeter/VSI
- 22what instrument runs on pitot and static pressureASI
- 23How many fuel vents are there in each wing and what are they for? There are 1 fuel vents in each wing for maintaining ambient pressure i.e. relieving pressure
If asked further there is also 2 pressure relief valves under the fuel caps to relieve underpressure (i.e. let air in from outside if vacuum starts to develop) - 24How would you check the condition of the main wheel oleo? You would check that it is within the limits of 4 ¼ - 4 ¾ and to check whether you can see the 2 markers
- 25Why don’t you check full and free movement of the rudder on a check “A”?As it is connected to the nose wheel and cannot be moved when stationary.
- 26How would you know the primer is in and locked? The 2 arrows are lined up
- 27How do you know the HSI is slaved?White lines aligned
Flag Out
Switch to slaved
Cross-check with compass (Essential Point) - 28What could it mean if you cannot drain from the carb in the Check “A”?Blockage
Leak in fuel selector
Primer “out”
Empty Fuel Tanks
Fuel Selector = Off (Essential Point) - 29How many vacuum pumps are there?2
- 30How are they powered?Engine (primary), Electrically (Aux)
- 31What are the electrical systems on warrior?Battery 12v 35a
Alternator 14v 60a - 32) What type of oil does the warrior use?100+ or warrior
- 33What are the limits for oil quantity?5-8 quartz
- 34What power setting would you set if a fuel leak is suspected and what circuit pattern would you follow? You would select the leaking tank, full throttle and climb to a safe altitude and then when the fuel in that tank has been used up switch to other tank and make your approach. There isn’t technically a circuit pattern but it depends on the severity of the leak.
Edit: Debrief mentioned that a glide circuit is appropriate. - 35What would you set on the transponder in the event of a radio failure?7600
- 36What is the first action you’d take in the event of an alternator failure?Get the checklist out
- 37) If you had an alternator failure how long would you expect the battery to last and what would you leave switched on?The battery would last for 30 minutes and you would leave the transponder and the Comms 1 box on.
- 38If you needed to use the auxiliary vacuum pump what would you check for?Suction, and check ammeter loading. Max 55A – if gone to 60A (end of scale) then start shedding electrical loads. During day there is no need for navigation, landing and recognition lights. So get rid of those, and then also switch of avionics – no nav aids required and only transponder and comms box 1 required.
- 39Electrical failure?Leave on one radio and transponder
- 40What would you do if you had throttle stuck at full power in circuit? On final put ICO or magnetos off and land
- 41What do you do in radio failure?Abnormal Checklist
- 42If nose wheel steering failure?Use differential brakes.
- 43If the throttle becomes jammed in flight?Get into circuit, climb to sufficient height, cut mixture and magnetos and carry out a glide approach
- 44If more power needed to maintain same RPM?Carb heat on due to carb icing
- 45If door opens during flight?Slow down to 89kts, open the storm window and close door
- 46Brake failure during taxi?Throttle to idle, mixture idle/cut-off and gently use parking brake if necessary
- 47Radio failure procedures?Follow normal circuit pattern, descend to 400ft on finals, rock wings (day) or flash landing light (night) and wait for a steady green light from the tower.
If you are outside the circuit enter the CTR to the West of the aerodrome, orbit right hand between runway and railway at 500ft AGL, wait for green light from tower and then position to finals. - 48What direction would you hold over Sierra?Anti Clockwise direction
- 49What call would you make abeam the threshold of the RWY in use and what position are you in?Cygnet xxx, (left/right) downwind to land/touch and go
- 50If you are unable to make a call in after ATC has requested you call before turning onto base what do you do?Extend your downwind leg
- 51How do you check your spacing downwind?Use a 1/3 of the red section on your wing and that should be lined up with the runway
- 52What is the minimum height you can descent to without clearance to land?200ft AGL
- 53Approach speeds?Flapless 70-65, Glide 75-70, Normal (flaps 40) 65-60
- 54What should you do if you bounce on landing?Go around
- 55What do you do if red light stop bars stay illuminated after ATC clearance?Inform ATC and do NOT line up
- 56Question on zeus time, given ATD what is the airborne time?Block time minus 12min of taxi out for departure and 3min taxi in on arrival
- 57Departure/Rejoin Procedures Departing to East off runway 02= Turn right to right downwind and then when you are abeam the tower turn left or use disbanded railway. Then climb to 2000ft towards Echo.
Etc for different runways for Echo and Whiskey - 58Holding Procedures (Hold East, West, Sierra, etc)Holding over East = Maximum of 2 aircraft and if more than 1 the 2nd aircraft has to be at 1500ft
- 59What call do you make just before turning onto base?Cygnet xxx, ready base. You can only turn onto base if you have made this call and been cleared or if you have been previously cleared to finals/land.
- 60What is the lowest altitude on final before go around?200ft agl or 300ft on qnh
- 61Wind 010/8kt take-off R20 can you take-off or land?NO! Pay attention the wind is on your back and you have a 5kt tailwind limit.
- 62Take-off R20 wind 230/10kt and your crosswind limit is 5kt. Can you fly?Yes 5kt crosswind (clock code 30° = half of wind)
- 63You are holding east and an aircraft is joining downwind. A conflict exists, who has priority? You do because you are already established in circuit
- 64What is the correct procedure for EFATO?Pitch 75, choose field, IF TIME PERMITS ONLY crash drills and mayday call (always pitch first, close throttle)
- 65What are the pre landing checks (in order)?Engine Ts & Ps
