About Normal Procedures and Checklists

GoConqr Original

What this unit covers

The unit follows a flight in order. A long run of quizzes, mostly titled Procedimientos Normales, walks through the stages: before entering the cockpit, before starting, engine starting, after engine starting and warm up, engine check, taxiing, before take off, take off, climb, cruise, descent, landing approach, landing, missed approach, after landing, and parking and engine shutdown. Later quizzes cover night flights and acrobatic prior manoeuvres.

Where to start

Begin with the walk-round. The quizzes on the cockpit, empennage, right wing, nose landing gear and left wing each take one area of the aircraft. The engine and propeller quiz asks you to fill blanks such as oil quantity, the filling cap and leakage checks.

  1. Work through the before-entering-the-cockpit quizzes.
  2. Move to before starting, engine starting and after engine starting.
  3. Continue through taxiing, take off, climb and cruise.
  4. Finish with descent, landing, after landing and shutdown.

Other formats

Flashcards suit quick recall. The Mnemonics deck pairs acronyms such as BUMFISCH and GABLITTS with the point in the flight where each is used. The deck called checks lists the checklists from before start to run up and before take-off. The solo test deck asks questions about magneto checks and alternator limits. The Normal Procedure and Departure Procedure mind maps give an overview of the flow.

The Tecnam resources include a normal operations quiz and an emergency checklist quiz that opens with engine failure immediately after take off. Memory items has its own quiz.

Using quizzes and maps together

Look at a mind map first to see the order of the stages. Then take the matching quiz and note which blanks you missed. Return to the flashcards to drill those items.

Where it sits

This unit belongs to the Flight Operations and Procedures strand of Aviation. Pick one stage, try its quiz, and see how far the checklist stays in your head.

Frequently asked questions

Which quiz should I start with?

Start with the before-entering-the-cockpit quizzes, such as the one on the engine and propeller. They follow the walk-round in order, so you build the checklist sequence from the first check. Then move on to before starting and engine starting.

What do the mind maps cover?

There are 2 mind maps, called Normal Procedure and Departure Procedure. They give a visual overview of how the stages connect, so they are a good first look before you take the stage-by-stage quizzes.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself, so check details against your own aircraft documents.

Who are these resources suited to?

They are all at professional level. University students and professional candidates can use the quizzes and flashcards to practise checklist recall, and teachers can pick ready-made material for their own classes.

Are there resources for emergencies and memory items?

Yes. There is a Tecnam P2008 JC emergency checklist quiz, which begins with engine failure immediately after take off, and a separate quiz called Memory items. Use them after you are comfortable with the normal sequence.

What if my aircraft is not listed?

The unit is a community collection, so some types may be missing. A free account lets you make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes for your aircraft's checklists.
