Chapter 10 Transport systems in organisms lets gooo
Define Diffusion it is the net movement of particles from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration until an equilibrium is reached.
diffusion in humans ? During absorption, soluble digested substances, diffuse into the bloodstream from the small intestine due to the presence of concentration of the nutrients between these 2 regions.
diffusion in plants? partially permeable cell membrane allows only some [such as minerals and nutrients] to diffuse but not others.
define osmosis it is the net movement of water molecules moving from a region of higher water potential to a region of lower water potential until an equilibrium is reached.
osmosis in humans? if a human cell has--- a higher water potential, the cell swells as it does not have a cell wall to protect it and eventually bursts. a lower water potential, the cell shrinks in size and becomes crenated.
osmosis in plants? if a plant cell has --- a higher water potential, cell expands and becomes turgid but the cell wall prevents it from bursting a lower water potential, cytoplasm shrinks away from the cell wall and it becomes plasmolysed.
similarities and differences similarities: both involve the movement of articles down their concentration gradient. differences: diffusion does not need a partially permeable membrane, osmosis needs. diffusion can occur for any particle but osmosis is only for water molecules.
