  2. 2issue stained with haematoxylin and eosin shows the... stained what colour?nuclei... Dark purple
  3. 3What is regressive staining?A type of staining in which tissues are overstained and excess dye then removed selectively until the desired intensity is obtained.
  4. 4What is progressive staining?progressive staining stains to desired intensity without initially overstaining
  5. 5What is eosin?-Eosin is an acidic dye
    -negatively charged
-it stains basic structures red or pink.
  6. 6What is Haematoxylin?-a basic dye
    -positively charged

  7. 7Haematoxylin is not strictly a basic dye, but it is used with a 'mordant' that makes this stain act as a basic dye. What is the mordant?aluminium salts
  8. 8How does the mordant dye the nuclei?Binds to the tissue
  9. 9What is histoclear?Histoclear is used to clear tissues,it also removes paraffin wax so that they can be rehydrated and stained.
  10. 10What is the H&E method used for?it provides a very detailed view of the tissue. It achieves this by clearly staining cell structures including the cytoplasm, nucleus, and organelles and extra-cellular components and can help with diagnosis of diseases.
