- 1Define: MalwareThis is a type of malicious software and it comes in many forms that has multiple methods for attacking a network.
- 2What is Social Engineering? This is a real-life application of getting access to private data, such as passwords and usernames. Verbal manipulation is used, as well as methods such as shoulder surfing.
- 3What is Phishing? This is when what appears to be a trusted source (but is someone/something else) gets a user to open a link or something similar so they can get access to the user’s personal data and/or put a virus on their device.
- 4What is a Brute Force Attack? This is direct attacks from hackers who try and destroy any security measures a network may have – like a firewall – until they have access to that network.
- 5What does DDoS stand for?Distribution Denial of Service
- 6What does a DDoS attack involve?Overloading a network with too many requests to make it shut down, which makes the network vulnerable to hackers.
- 7What is Data Interception? When a hacker clones or steals your data as it is travelling across a network.
- 8What does SQL stand for?Structured Query Language
- 9What is a SQL Injection?Hackers use this attack to execute malicious SQL statements which can be used to control a network, as well as bypass many security measures.
- 10Define: Network PolicyA generic set of rules that correlates to the access of a network and determines how policies are enforced.
- 11What is Penetration Testing?Employing people to try and hack a network to see if the security can be bypassed, if not they will know where to refine it.
- 12Why is regular Penetration Testing good for organisations? The company is exposed to the weaknesses in their security systems therefore they can fix them and strength security, making it so much harder for outside hackers to infiltrate the network..
- 13What are User Access Rights? This is the individual permissions given to users which can allow them to edit, read and delete computer files.
- 14What is Acceptable Use Policy?Making sure that the policy is fair and applies a set of rules to the user made by the owner/website.
- 15What is Backup Policy? This is a pre-made schedule in relation to the idea of data being stolen, deleted or edited so the user has a second version of the data to ensure the data stays safe.
- 16What is a Disaster Recovery Policy? This is a procedure that relates to the inevitability of a physical disaster occurring which destroys protected data, and being able to recover the data though the use of – for example – the cloud.
- 17What is a Firewall?A firewall is a security measure to help prevent malware infecting a device or network.
