  1. 1Goal SeekYou know what the outcome from a formula is, ie you have a budget of £200 per month. Goal seek will let you see how much you can borrow monthly repaying £200.
  2. 2SolverSimilar to goal seek but you can change multiple input cells instead of just one.
  3. 3ScenariosForecasting tool allows you to change values in a worksheet using the what-if analyses. Scenario manager allows the operator to substitute values in several cells and save it under a unique name. Allowing managers to foresee the different impact situations may have helping in decision making.
  4. 4Formula auditingAllows you to trace relationships between cells and formulas, shown by tracer arrows
  5. 5Tracing precedentsIdentifies the cells referred to by that formula, arrows will indicate that certain cells are used in some way in the formula contained in the active cell.
  6. 6Tracing dependentsAn active cell might be used in a formula elsewhere in the spreadsheet. The formula cells are called dependents.
  7. 7Tracing errorsShould an error message be displayed the tracing errors feature will help to find the cause and consequently errors can be rectified more quickly.
  8. 8Data ValidationSpreadsheets may contain incorrect information being made at the inputting stage. Validation limits can be placed on the type of information that may be entered. This will subsequently help control how accurate the spreadsheet is.
  9. 9Validation criteriaWhole number, decimal, date, time and text length can be chosen. you can choose to use the between and have a min and max number.
  10. 10Validation Input MessageYou can input any message and give it a title. The show input message when cell is selected give additional support when the operator is inputting ie "insert a number between 10 and 30"
  11. 11Lookup tablesIt may be that when completing a document you may need to refer to a list to extract a code or price. The lookup function allows you to do this automatically. This saves time and minimises the risk of errors occurring.
  12. 12VLOOKUPWhen the list is laid out vertically in columns you would use the vertical lookup.
  13. 13HLOOKUPWhen the list is laid out horizontally you would use the horizontal lookup. performs a horizontal lookup by searching for a value in the top row of the table and returning the value in the same column based on the index_number.
  14. 14RateThe interest rate.
  15. 15NperTotal number of repayments to be made
  16. 16PMTfunction to calculate the repayments required based on regular payments at a fixed rate of interest eg the monthly requirement to repay a loan of £5,000 over 5 years at 6%
  17. 17PVPresent value tells you how much you borrowed at the start of the loan. Can also be used to work out how much of a loan you can afford to repay.
  18. 18FVFuture Value is used to determine the future value of an investment, that is the value after the term is over and interest has been calculated. eg how much an investment is worth at the end of a 5 year period if you invest £700 per month over 5 years at 5%
  19. 19SLNWorks out the annual depreciation rate of an asset eg you buy a tractor worth £40,000 is expected to last 4 years meaning it will depreciate at £10,000 a year.
  20. 20IFIF function makes decisions. A condition is set up and, if the condition calculates to be true, then one action is taken. If the calculation is false then another action is taken. eg Value if true 10% then a student passes the test if it is false 5% then the student must resit the test.
  21. 21Count FunctionsCount- tallies up the number of instances a cell in a range have numerical values in them
Counta - tallies up numbers and text in a range of cells
Countif - a conditional function, allows the operator to add specific cells in a range
  22. 22MacrosIs a recording of a series of commands which can be played back when necessary. Useful for actions that are frequently used and for complex tasks, thereby reducing errors.
  23. 23Sorting DataData in a spreadsheet can be sorted in a way that makes it more meaningful to the user and easier to understand. ie alphabetically, numerically or by date and time. Used on a single field or more than 1 field.
  24. 24Advanced filterAllows you to apply multiple conditions to filter the information, you would copy the field names to another part of the worksheet and place the information you wish to filter under the headings ie if you wish to find out who in the Edinburgh, Sales department earns more than £1000 you could set this up.
  25. 25Regression analysisAllows us to find connections and relationships between 2 different quantities. If we can identify how one quantity is influenced by another, we can often make useful forecasts about the future patterns of behaviour.
  26. 26CorrelationFinds out the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship between the 2 quantities, this is measured by calculating the correlation coefficient, r. Can only have a value between -1 and +1. The closer the value is to -1 or 1 the stronger the relationship between the 2 quantities.
  27. 27Time series analysisQuantitative values collected over equal time intervals ie rainfall collected at specific times. Allows for predictions to be made about what might happen at the same time in the future.
  28. 28Data comparisonYou can compare data by setting up a separate table to see the results of the data comparison more clearly. ie variable costs can be shown as a separate sable with the average, minimum, maximum and the correlated information shown,
  29. 29Pivot TablesAllow you to rearrange information in various ways to make it easier to analyse, this will produce an interactive summary. ie you may want to summaries the items in relation to the salesperson a pivot table can be adjusted or different pivot tables created for various needs.
