- 1CompilerTranslates the source code, that is high level, to machine code, that is lo level, so that it can be executed a stand alone program. You only compile a file when the interpreter has fully developed and tested it.
- 2InterpreterAllows the code to be translated line by line , so it can be thoroughly checked. This doesn't create it as a stand alone file, it would be an interpret of the original as it only converts a line of code at a time.
- 3High level codeHigh level code is in a format that the user can read and understand, so they can edit, create and delete it. Instructions are written as words, syntax rules can validate this. This is also portable, so you can use the same code on different macines.
- 4Machine codeMachine code is code in the simplest form. It is in binary so the computer can read it. This is specific to a certain machine only so it isn't portable.
- 5Assembly LangaugeThis is a series of Mnemonics (command words) that can be used to order code when it is in machine code. It is easier for the user to understand in this form.
- 6OpcodeThis is a process or function that the code has been ordered to do, it might be add or subtract.
- 7OperandThis is the data or values that are to be affected by the opcode instruction. This is stored as a binary value. Th instructions in opcode and the values in operand are stored in different parts of the memory.
- 8Editor in IDEAllows the user to change and create code, it also colour codes key words in the coding process and can be used to auto complete the code.
- 9Debugger in IDEThe IDE can look for syntax errors in the code before it is run, it will find the errors and identify them to the user and offer a solution.
- 10LossyDeleting some of the data from a file inorder it decrease the size of the file. It removes the data that is less likely to be noticed when it is gone. Once the file size and quality is reduced, it cannot be restored.
- 11LosslessThis is when enough information about a file is stored for it to be recreated fully. This means that the file size of something will be larger but the data won't be lost.
