  1. 1IDEIntegrated development environment. A piece of software that allows has a large range of functions for a programmer to use. E.g Python
  2. 2EditorAllows the user to write and edit code.
  3. 3DebuggerFinds out errors and shows the user where they are roughly located
  4. 4TranslatorThis is what compiles and interprets the code.
  5. 5CompilerThis translates the whole program into machine code and is used once the program is fully developed. The program is stored as an executable file and can be run by the CPU as a stand alone file.
  6. 6InterpreterTranslates the source code one line at a time but the code can only be used within the interpreter software.
  7. 7Assembly languageAssemblers are made up of a relatively small amount of command words called Mnemonics.
E.g ADD carries out an add command.
MOV command moves data from one location to another.
  8. 8MnemonicAssembly language instructions use abbreviations called Mnemonics.
E.g LDA 50 store the value 50 into the register of the CPU
  9. 9OpcodeThe opcode tells the processor the job that needs to be done. Opcode instructions are very limited in what they can tell the processors and a CPU's instruction set contains the opcodes it will except.
  10. 10OperandThe operand specifies the data that needs to be acted on. This can also refer to a place in memory, such as a register.
  11. 11Machine codeMachine code consists of coded instructions and data. Each instruction is stored as a pattern of bits and corresponds directly to an action carried out by the CPU.
  12. 12Assembly vs machineMnemonics is abbreviated instructions (e.g Load is LDA) whereas machine code uses binary for instructions.
