Fluids Unit Test
Fichas del conjunto (12)
- 1Drag-the drag force is always opposite to the objects motion
-the drag force increases as the object moves faster - 2Hydrodynamics-refers to the motion of liquids (usually water) around a solid object
(ex. fish(whale), submarine, swimmer, polar bear) - 3Pneumatic-confined system that uses moving air to transmit a force (an air compressor is used to move the air, i.e. tools lungs)
- 4Hydraulica system that uses a liquid under pressure to transmit a force (involves pumps, pistons, cylinders, valves, and fluid)
- 5Flow Rate-distance travel divided by time
-centimetres divided by seconds - 6Archimedes' Principle-the buoyant force on an object in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid the object displaces
- 7Turbulence-flow in which a fluid moves in irregular paths, fluid continuously undergoing changes (high velocity, unstable flow, irregular paths, constant changes, colliding pathways) (ex. ocean current, lava flow)
- 8Density-the mass of a substance per unit volume of that substance
Density= mass divided by volume - 9Buoyancy-the upward force exerted by a fluid on an object
- 10Viscosity-a fluids resistance to flow
-viscous fluid is thicker, slows slower, particles have stronger attraction
(ex. honey, ketchup, syrup, shampoo) - 11Aerodynamic-refers to air (gas) moving around a solid object
(ex. car, motorcycle, sports car, cheetah) - 12Laminar Flow-when a fluid flows in parallel layers with no disruption in between
(ex. running sink, healthy blood flow)
