- 1Describe 2 differences between fibre optic cables and copper cables for connecting to the internet. (2 marks)COPPER: uses electrical signals; needs a repeater every 100m or so; limited in bandwidth; prone to electrical interference.
FIBRE-OPTIC: uses light; the signal does not weaken much over distance; it is not prone to electrical disturbance; harder to hack; high bandwidth. - 2Wi-Fi is a way of connecting devices. give one advantage and one disadvantage of using Wi-Fi.Advantage:
Can use device anywhere within range, No wires, many devices can connect.
Disadvantage:
Hacking can be easy, runs down battery quickly, high interference. - 3State one improvement that new developments in mobile phone services e.g. 4g technology, could bring to users.- Provides super-fast internet access.

Explain why fibre-optic cable is better than dial up for this activity.With fibre-optic the video would arrive smoothly owing to the high bandwidth available whereas with dial-up the data would arrive so slowly that there would be long pauses while enough data was buffered to show the next screen.

- 8A company has wireless network installed. Describe one reason why they might be concerned about the security of their data.Hacker may gain access to the network and steal data.
- 9Describe the differences a user would find between using dialup or broadband to access the internet.Dialup: Use a modern; needs a telephone line; converts signal that can be passed along a telephone line; pages appear very slowly.
Broadband: Uses a cable connection; can use the telephone at the same time; can use webcam services.
