Flash cards on cardiovascular system
Fichas del conjunto (19)
- 1Identify the key functions of blood- Carries substances e.g. Oxygen/ CO2/ nutrients/ waste / water
- Defends against infection through Leukocyctes
- Maintainance of the heart (homeostasis)
- Protection through injury via platelets - 2List the different types of blood cellsEthrocyctes (white cells)
Thrombocyctes (platelets)
Leukocyctes (white cells) - 3Identify 4 main types of blood vesselsArteries
Veins
Capillaries
Heart - 4Identify the function of atriaThe top 2 chambers in the heart which recieve deoxygenated blood (right) and oxygenated (left) blood
- 5Identify the function of ventriclesThe bottom 2 chambers of the heart that recieves blood from atria. Ventricles push blood up into aorta and pulmonary artery
- 6Identify the function of valvesTo prevent backflow from happening and to allow blood to move through different areas e.g. atrium to ventricle
- 7Describe approx. size of heartApprox the size of a fist
- 8Identify the 3 layers of the heartPericardium
Myocardium
Endocardium - 9Describe 3 layers of heartPericardium - Outer layer protecting the heart & provides lubrication
Myocardium - Middle layer. Repsonsible for pumping the blood
Endocardium - Lines the internal surface of valves & chambers - 10Identify the pulmonary circuitTakes deoxygenated blood from the body to the heart entering via right atrium & sending blood to lungs for gaseous exchange (Uses right side of body)
- 11Identify systematic circuitResponsible for pumping oxygenated blood around the body to the organs & tissues (Uses left side of body)
- 12Identify how the heart muscle is supplied with oxygen and nutrientsThe arteries
- 13Why is the heart muscle on the left thicker? As it works at a higher pressure due to having a further distance around the body
- 14Identify the types of waves on a ECGP wave
QRS wave
T wave - 15Identify the functions of the waves of an ECGP wave - Impulse from SA node to AV node
QRS - Depolarisation of the ventricles, electrical activities of the purkinje fibres
T wave - Repolarisation of the ventricles, the ventricles going into diastole & then relax - 16The heart is regulated by which centre? The cardiovascular system
- 17Describe internal respirationThe diffusion or gaseous exchange in which happens when the CO2 is rempved from the capillaries into the lungs where it will be removed via exhaling.
- 18Describe short-term BPChecking the BP at that current moment in time via machine or manually. This can be repeated over a number hours however the reading will be from that moment in time.
- 19Describe long-term BPMonitoring the BP over a long period of time e.g. days. This happens via a machine that is connected and measure the BP at regular intervals to gain an understanding of the overall BP.
