  1. 1What is reaction time? This involves no movement it is just the time taken from the presentation of the stimuli to the start of the movement.
  2. 2What is movement time?Movement time is the time it takes to complete a task from start to finish.
  3. 3What is response time?Response time is the time taken from the presentation of the stimulus to the completion of the task. It is the combination of movement and reaction time.
  4. 4What are the models of information processing?Input, decision making and output
  5. 5What is the definition of display? The physical environment surrounding the performer containing various stimuli from which the performer has to chose which is relevant.
  6. 6What is the definition of selective attention?A process that filters irrelevant information gathered by the sensory system and prioritises the stimuli that can affect the particular situation.
  7. 7What is the definition of motor programme?A series of subroutines in the correct sequence to perform a movement, adapting it to changes in the environment.
  8. 8What is the definition of perceptual mechanism? The interpretation and analysis of information gathered from the environment by the sensory system.
  9. 9What is the definition of translatory mechanism? Is the use of information gathered from the environment and makes the appropriate decision.
  10. 10What is the definition of effector mechanism? The transfer of the decision that has been made to the muscular system via the motor nerves.
  11. 11What are exteroceptors?Gathering information from outside the body.
  12. 12What are proprioceptors?Information gathered from inside the body via nerve receptors in the muscles and joints.
  13. 13What are interoceptors?Information gathered from the internal organs which is passed to the central nervous system to control functions like blood flow.
  14. 14What is a motor programme? An organised series of subroutines into the correct order to perform a movement, adapting it to the environment.
  15. 15What is the short term sensory store? This collects all the information enter the body. It has a huge capacity but it can only retain information for 1 second. Info is then prioritised and irrelevant stimuli are discarded.
  16. 16What is the short term memory? This filters the information and compares it to past experiences before a decision is made. It has a limited capacity of 7+/- pieces and can hold them for 30 seconds.
  17. 17What is chunking?Information is arranged into larger units/chunks allowing more pieces to be stored.
  18. 18What is chaining? The linking together of pieces of information.
  19. 19What is the long term memory? The permanent retention of information through repetition. It was a massive capacity and can hold information for a vast period of time.
  20. 20What are the factors that affect reaction time?Age, gender, fatigue, intensity of the stimuli, probability of the stimulus occurring, presence of a warning signal, personality, sense used to detect the stimulus, experience, arousal level, stimulus- response compatibility, body temperature, limbs used.
  21. 21What is simple reaction time? This involves one stimulus and one possible response.
  22. 22What is choice reaction time? This involves the performer being presented with numerous stimuli each with different responses. This occurs in all open skills, making the performer make decisions based on experience.
