VLANs are virtual LANs that are setup to divide a network’s broadcast domain.
VLANs replicate the network traffic that is on one network, but it operates by acting like it is split between networks.
Ports on switches can be assigned to one or more VLANs, this enables systems to be divided into groups.
Grouping allows you to put computers into a specific groups to apply certain rules to them. - 23. VLANs Continued VLANs can improve the overall performance of busy networks. VLANs can be used as a preventative measure for port security attacks. VLANs port security is obtained by allowing greater control over which devices have local access to each other. 4. DEFINING PORT SECURITY
Protection of physical access points and interfaces on a networked switch and the protection of the networks traffic.
It ensures data integrity and stability.
It enables an administrator to configure individual switch ports to allow only a specified number of source MAC addresses ingressing the port. - 35. Mac address flooding attack MAC flooding is a technique employed to compromise the security of network switches. MAC flooding works by pushing MAC table contents out of a switch. This leads to sensitive information to going to places on the network where it is not sanctioned to go to. A hacker will then use a packet analyzer to steal confidential data that is being spread between two computers. 6. Configuration of port security
Switch# configure terminal
Switch(config)# interface gigabitethernet0/0/1
Switch(config-if)# switchport mode access
Switch(config-if)# switchport access vlan 2
In short, you went into the configuration mode
You entered interface cfg mode for gigabitethernet0/0/1
You made it an access port
