- 2What is a database?A database is an organised collection of related fields. It is possible to add, change or delete data from a database.
- 3Name 5 different data types.Any 5 from: Integer, Real number, String, Date/time, Boolean, Lists, Picture, Sound, Video or Currency.
- 4Define a Field.A field is a single item of data within a record. Eg- surname, date of birth, form number.
- 5Define a record.A record consists of a collection of related fields. Eg- a pupils record in a school database containing all their information (DOB, form, surname, forename etc.)
- 6Define a table/ file.A table/ file is a collection of related fields. Eg- the table of records of all pupils in the school.
- 7Define a key field.A key field uniquely identifies each record. No two records are the same because they have different key fields. The purpose of a key field is to be able to refer to an individual record using a single field.
- 8What is validation and give one example.Validation checks that the data entered into the system is reasonable and sensible- or we get GIGO. It DOES NOT check that the data entered is correct. For example- a range check.
