Fichas del conjunto (22)
- 1LAN (Local Area Network) LocalThe most common. Located at one site (a single building or several buildings in proximity.
- 2WAN (Wired Area Network) WideFor organisation that may have several branches (i.e. blanks, collages / university campuses). For all to access the same data source.
- 3MAN (Metro Area Network) MetroUsually covers a network within the same city. Its coverage is between a LAN and WAN
- 4PAN (Personal Area Network) PersonalPersonal area network. Set up privately for a new people to connect a small number of devices together. Example = phone to a car audio system for hands free / PC to a phone / Laptop to a portable printer-maybe tradesmen.
- 5VPN (Virtual Privet Network)Virtual Private Network: two physical networks connected by another connection generally the internet.
- 6Physical Topology. The physical layout of devices on a network and how the cables and wires connect these devices.
- 7logical Topology. How data is transmitted and received between devices on a network regardless of their physical connections.
- 8Topology.The way in which the devices (nodes) are connected.
- 9Node.A device that is connected to the network
- 10Example of nodes.Computers, Printers, Hubs, Switches and routers.
- 11Physical Bus topology. All nodes are connected to a single backbone. The backbone is a single wire that carries data packets no the nodes. Terminators must be installed at two ends of the backbones.
- 12Advantages Physical Bus topology.Less cable required than in other typologies.,
- 13disadvantages Physical Bus topology.Unable to accommodate a large number of nodes - such as those required for LAN`s
A single break in the backbone disables the entire network.. - 14Physical Ring typologies. Each node connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a complete ring, which generally circulates data packets in one direction. Each node revives data form one node and transmits to the other.
- 15Advantages Physical Ring typologies. There are dirty jokes that can be made about it...if you`re feeling particularly inventive.
- 16Disadvantages Physical Ring typologies. If one cable is broken the entire network is disabled
To remove or add a node, the entire network must be stopped all nodes must be powered at all times if the network is to operate. - 17Mesh Topology. These include more than one physical path between pairs of nodes. Routers are required for mesh typologies.
- 18Advantages of Mesh Topology.Fault tolerance, as packages are automatically routed around faults.
Can be used in high-speed long distance connections. - 19Disadvantages of Mesh Topology.Routers are required to direct each data-packet.
- 20Physical Star topology.Al nodes connect to a central node via their own dedicated cable. The central node is the device that connects all outlying nodes such that they can transmit and receive packets to and from each other node..
- 21advantages of Physical Star topology. Each node had its own cable and can be connected and disconnected without affecting any other nodes, new nodes can be easily added without first disabling the network the process of identifying faults is made more simple.
- 22Disadvantages of Physical Star topology.A lot of cabling is required if a fault occurs in the central node the all connected nodes are also disabled.
