-Knowledge, Attitudes, and Substance Use Practices Among

Street Children in Western Kenya

Cross- sectional studies

Study population: Randomly without considering the exhibition or the event as selection criteria.

Study population: Elegible children and youth were also identified and recruited through their peers using snowball samplig.

Presence of the exhibition: Street- involved children and youth were elegible to participate if they were between the ages of 10 and 19 and not currently enrolled in an educational institution and child on the street or child of the street

Presence of the exhibition: once the study population is formed

Individual written consent.

Event: The use of psychoactive substances.

Measurement: one through time and in each subject

Measurement: a cross-sectional survey was designed within the knowledge, attitudes and practices model (KAP).

The curvey was conducted in Kiswahili through face to face interviews using a questionnaire comprised of 78 questions.

The survey collected data concerning sociodemographics an knowledge and attitudes about drug use.

Sample: 146 children.

Results:

38 had never used drugs.

83% who had used, stil use drugs.

29% had never been educated about the dangers of drugs.
