waterfalls are made when there is hard and soft rock
how a gorge is made
the hard rock does not erode
the soft rock erodes
so the when the soft rock erodes it leaves an overhang which gives a waterfall its shape
a gorge is made when the overhang overhangs to much and collapses
this process keeps on repeating until you get a gorge
