1. Firewall

   • Who Uses It?
     • Members of the public, corporate organisations, schools, governments etc.
   • What Is A Firewall?
     • A network security system. Either hardware or software base that controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on a set of rules.
   • what Systems Use It?
     • Operating systems; Windows, Mac OS etc. Network devices, routers, switches, servers

2. Social Engineering

   • Social engineering, in the context of information security, refers to psychological manipulation of people into performing actions or divulging confidential information

3. Mac Address Filtering

   • What is a MAC address?
     • Media Access Control, it is an address given to all network devices, it is hardcoded into the device. 00:0a:95:9d:68:16
   • What is filtering?
     • Media Access Control address filtering is the process of setting up parameters to allow only certain MAC addresses onto a network or router.
     • Only the devices you allow through the filtering can access your home network. If someone was spying on your network they could potentially listen for a MAC address and attempt to copy it into their own device.

4. Blagging

   • What is meant by blagging?
     • Inventing a scenario to convince someone that you are a person you are not.
   • Can you think of an example of blagging on the internet, perhaps one you have encountered first hand?
     • An email from someone at Apple that says your iTunes account is locked and they need your details to unlock it.
   • What is it used for?
     • To get information that people shouldn’t have access to or to get into restricted locations

5. Shoulder Surfing

   • What is it?
     • When someone intentionally looking over your shoulder while you are carrying out a transaction at an ATM at looking at sensitive/personal information.
   • What information could they gained?
