Testing a Website

  1. User Interface

    • Wireframe and low fidelity prototypes can be used to inform the testing of user interface:
      • Does the implemented interface match the wireframe design?
      • Does the interface take account of end user requirements such as accessibility?
  2. Hyperlinks

    • All hyperlinks, external and internal should be checked to make sure they work.
    • If dead links are found they should be examined to see the relative and absolute address to check for errors.
  3. Media

    • Audio , images and videos should be tested by checking:
      • Positioning matches design.
      • That alt tags exist where images don't appear
      • Video and audio successfully allow for the clip to be played, paused and restarted
      • Any 'autoplay' video or audio works as expected
  4. Consistency

    • Consistency in font, size, style, position of media and accessibility features should also be checked for each page on the site.
    • It may be necessary to check external CSS style sheets if issues are encountered with page styling.
    • Any errors found during testing would be rectified by revisiting the implementation phase of web development.
