Techniques for Testing

  1. Techniques used for Testing

    • Test Harnesses
      • Used in software testing to automate the testing
      • They automate the testing and this means testing takes less time and the quality of the final software is better
    • Performance Testing
      • Determines how fast some aspect of a system is when under load
    • Scalability Testing
      • A type of performance testing focused on ensuring the application under test is able to cope with increases in workload
    • Volume Testing
      • Any values that may become large over time can be accumulated by the program and will not cause the program to stop working or cause poor performance
    • Usability Testing
      • Measuring how well people can use an ICT system or a part of it
      • Usability testing can identify disabilities with the ease of use of the system which the developers can aim to improve
    • Multi-platform testing/portability testing
      • Aimed at demonstrating the software can ported to specified software and hardware platforms
  2. Prototyping

    • involves producing working versions of the ICT system at different stages during its development
    • Is a quick way to incorporate feedback from real users into a design
    • User involvement is regular therefore the end product matches the user's needs most of the time
  3. Paper Prototyping

    • Uses scissors, paper, and post-it notes or similar stickies
    • You sit with a user as they complete tasks by using paper pages
    • You can use paper prototypes for testing by putting them in front of users and see how they work for them
  4. Use of Simulated Environment

    • Used to see how systems would perform in real life situations
    • It checks how systems behave when it is subjected to a series of controlled inputs
