2.4 Computational logic
Boolean logic
- Used to describe logical expressions
- True and false are the only outcomes
- True is denoted by 1 and false is denoted 0
- Logic gate
- The hardware which carries out the logical operations
- They reside in the CPU and other digital chips in the motherboard.
- Logic circuits
- A diagram which shows how multiple logic gates connect together.
- Logic circuits go from left to right, top to bottom.
- Truth table
- Lists all possible inputs and outputs for logic gates and logic circuits.
Gates
- Not gate
- The output is the opposite of the input
- AND gate
- If both inputs are true, the output is also true, else the output is false.
- OR gate
- If either input A or B is true, the output is true, else the output is false.
- Not gate
