1. How it's used

   • Computer/microprocessed based device monitors and measures physic variables over a period of time
     • It is measured by various sensors such as: Temp, pressure, humidity,etc
   • The computer continuously monitors the sensors
     • Data from sensors must be converted from analogue to digital so the computer can read/process it

2. Applications

   • Medical
     • patients can be monitored by sensors and if a value goes out of the pre-set range an alarm will ring to alert nurses
       • This gives nurses/doctors more time for other tasks
   • Weather and climate
     • Sensors can monitor different variables so data over large periods of time can be recorded
       • This data can be put into charts and be compared over years/decades
   • Environment
     • This can warn authorities of dangerously high pollutant levels
       • This is often very useful in large urbanised areas
   • Scientific experiments
     • Sensors allow for greater accuracy and therefore more reliable results
       • Data can be put onto spreadsheets and graphs can be plotted to clarify or make it easier to read results
