Arguing

  1. Deductive

    • Valid if the premises are true
      • If the premises are true the conclusion HAS to be true
        • (the conclusion is entailed by the premises)
    • Example
      • There are gnomes in my house
      • My house is in London
      • Therefore there are gnomes in London
  2. Inductive

    • Successful if the premises are true
      • If the premises are true the conclusion is more likely to be true
        • An inductive argument cannot validate but rather strongly support and idea
    • Example
      • I like computers
      • I like science
      • I will want to do computer science at collage
