Floodplains

1. Flat land found either side of a river in its middle and lower courses and often containing meanders

   • Migrating meanders can push back or erode the valley sides to create a wide, flat valley bottom
     • The flat valley created be deposition and erosion, are surrounded on both sides by the low hills called bluffs.
       • Flooding of the river can deposit silt or alluvium that flattens the landscape by covering it.
