   • a magnet moves across the medium and changes how magnetized a part of a medium is.
   • example devices
     • magnetic tape
       • a reliable sort of storage that uses magnets to code it.
         • not portable
     • Hard Disk Drive
       • one of the main storages used.
         • not portable
     • Floppy Disk Drive
       • rarely used but portable.
         • portable

2. optical

   • storage that is read by lasers or other light forms
   • example devices
     • bluray
       • easy to break and can store tons of data
         • Portable
     • CD
       • easy to break but can store a lot
         • portable
     • DVD
       • easy to break but can store a lot
         • portable

3. solid state

   • storage that can be taken out and used on other conmpters
   • example devices
     • USB
       • one of the easiest to find and can store up to 1 terrabyte
         • portable
     • SSD
       • easy to get and has limited numbers of writes, but only up to 1 terrabyte of data stored.
