1. THRILLER

   • "GET OUT" Get Out is supremely impressive in the cleverand biting manner it looks at racism, culture and humanity with the story of a young African-American man’s weekend in hell at his white girlfriend’s family manor. Most key, though, it makes us question how we treat one another at a time when common decency seems to be most needed.

2. ACTION

   • “DUNKIRK” Christopher Nolan takes on the World War II epic with his trademark intensity, incorporating his obsession with the complexities of time as a framing device for this look at the disastrous evacuation of British soldiers from the French seaside town that gives the film its title. Nolan views the historical events from every possible angle—land, sea, and air—and delivers an intense, terrifying, and incredibly suspenseful action-thriller that we'll likely see copied for decades to come.

3. ROMANCE

   • "'Literally, Right Before Aaron' "To invite the ex or not invite the ex—that is the dilemma. It’s also the springboard for The Blacklist star Ryan Eggold’s first foray into feature film directing. Cobie Smulders and Justin Long star as ex-couple Alex and Adam: she’s getting married, and he’s still reeling over their breakup—and now, an invitation to her wedding.

4. COMEDY

   • "GIRLS TRIP" In this uproarious comedy, four lifelong friends reunite and descend upon New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. Although the four women have drifted apart over the years, their reunion in the Big Easy proves they can get up to their old ways, and this boozy, raucous, sexy comedy brings out the comic genius in its stars Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Regina Hall—and delivers a breakthrough performance from the incessantly hilarious Tiffany Haddish.

5. DRAMA

   • "THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING MISSOURI" In an effort to track down who raped and murdered her daughter, Mildred Hayes has three billboards erected outside her town of Ebbing, Missouri. They accuse the Sheriff of doing nothing to catch the killer. This causes a largely adverse, and diverse, reaction amongst the town's folk, not least of all the sheriff's deputy, the hot-headed, irascible Jason Dixon.
