Types Of Databases

1. Flat

   • One table with data on, a single table of data.

2. Online

   • why are they used?
     • they are used to keep users updated on information, as well as storing the users information
     • online databases are good for customers as their details are remembered and stuff like things they can buy is updated instantly
   • Examples
     • Facebook
     • Twitter
     • amazon
     • netflix

3. Relational

   • A number of related tables that include all the data that is stored/needed.
   • modifications can be made quickly and easily throughout the database
   • the design is quite simple to understand.
   • different levels of access can be given
   • Features
     • information separated into discrete entities
       • Based on the real world
       • e.g. employees, products, customers
     • entities are described by a series of fields
       • describes the structure of the entity
         • e.g. products, weight, price
     • entities are connected by a series of relationships
       • built using common fields
       • represented by entity relationship diagrams

4. Local

   • A stand alone database, only one person can access it and it is more private than network databases.

5. Network

   • it can be accessed by anyone on the network on any device that is on the network.
   • People on the network can see data on people for example but not edit, delete or change anything
   • Examples
     • school networks
