1. System Catalog

   • A table that contains the tables you make

2. Data Defintion

   • Create, Alter, Drop

3. Data Manipulation

   • Select, Insert, Delete, Update

4. Cascading

   • if we delete a primary key, cascading will allow us to delete all records with that same key

5. • Transaction management operations

   • Ensure that transactions don’t clash e.g. Amazon

6. Logical independence

   • somebody can change a table without it affecting your work on a system.

7. Distribution independence

   • Data can be located elsewhere such as a server

8. Non subversion rule

   • Databases allows other languages such as c and java, but they have their own rules that you wouldn’t be able to change
