PARABOLAS

1. A parabola is a curve where any point is at an equal distance from a fixed point and a fixed straight line.

2. Parabolas always have a lowest point or highest. This point where the parabola changes direction is called "vertex".Point where the parabola crosses its axis of symmetry.

3. The parabolas axis of symmetry is a vertical line that divides the parabola into 2 congruent halves. Always passes through the vertex of the parabola.

4. The equation of a parabola is the standard form (x-h)2 = 4p(y-k) whee the focus (b.k + p) and the directrix is y=k-p
