THE PONDS
Thoreau felt refreshed by looking and talking about the features of the surrounding countryside
- He thinks Walden Pond in specific is remarkable
- He thinks it is deep and pure,
- It is sometimes blue and sometimes green
- Does not have many fish
- Besides pickerel
- But is occupied by other animals such as ducks, geese, frogs, etc.
- He remembers going to it before he lived there so as to light a fire by the shore
- Climbed Fair-Haven Hill
- He thinks Walden Pond in specific is remarkable
Sometimes, after hoeing for the day, he would go fishing with an elderly man but they didn't talk
- He also sometimes simply drifted around in his boat and played his flute
At one point, Thoreau noticed tracks around the pond possibly made by hunters
- There was an Indian fable that said there was once a group that was holding festivities on the mountain and were using profanity so the mountain sunk and devoured everyone but a woman named Walden.
- Thoreau values this pond, yet believes the townspeople do not
- There was an Indian fable that said there was once a group that was holding festivities on the mountain and were using profanity so the mountain sunk and devoured everyone but a woman named Walden.
About a mile away from Walden, there is Flint's pond, which is also called Sandy Pond
- It was far larger and more shallow
- Yet less pure and had more fish
- Thoreau wishes names of stuff like ponds would be based off of the animals around the place
- In addition to this, there are also Goose Pond, White Pond, and Fair-Haven Bay
- It was far larger and more shallow
