Survey

1. It is a procedure within the designs of a descriptive investigation in which the researcher collects data through a previously designed questionnaire, without modifying the environment or the phenomenon where the information is collected either to deliver it in the form of a triptych, graph or table.

2. The data is obtained by making a set of standardized questions directed to a representative sample.

3. Types of surveys

   • Descriptive surveys
     • They reflect or document the attitudes or conditions present. This means that they try to describe in which situation a certain population is at the moment in which the survey is carried out.
   • Analytical surveys
     • They seek, in addition to describing, explain the reasons for a given situation. In these types of surveys, the assumptions that support them are usually tested by examining at least two variables, of which interrelations are observed and then explanatory inferences are formulated.

4. Kind of questions

   • Open response
     • In these surveys, the respondent is asked to answer the question asked himself. This gives the respondent greater freedom and at the same time makes it possible to acquire deeper answers as well as to ask about the why and how of the questions asked.
   • Closed response
     • In these, respondents must choose to respond to one of the options presented in a list made by the researchers. This way of surveying results in answers that are easier to quantify and of a uniform nature.

5. Objective of a survey

   • Measure the relationships between demographic, economic and social variables. Evaluate demographic statistics such as errors, omissions and inaccuracies. Know deeply patterns of demographic variables and their associated factors such as fertility and determining migrations. Periodically evaluate the results of a running program. Know the public opinion about a certain topic. Investigate previously the characteristics of the population to ask the right questions. Give an answer of which the interviewees will give a consistent opinion
