The Ponds

1. Sometimes when he did not go to the village, he went further in unknown places in the woods, where he went and enjoyed the ponds.

2. He then starts describing Walden pond in specific, and though it is no special than any other pond, it is very special to those who live near it or encounter with it for a long time because of its depth and purity.

3. He then says that the pond is green, justifying that that is a good description.

   • He continues that Walden has the colors blue and green according to how you see it since it takes part of the green land and the blue heavens.
     • Blue does not necessarily mean the purity and beauty of the water.

4. He starts analyzing different aspects of the water such as the transparency of the water that you can see down deep from it, the pebbles on the shore, and the temperature of the water over the seasons.

   • He adds the White Pond nearby to his list of beautiful ponds along with Walden.

5. From the beauty of Walden, he suggests that maybe it had a great entity at some point of history, and he looks after traces for his theory, finding nothing but races for the existence of hunters who are no different that the current land occupants who still occasionally come and hunt.

6. He then analyzes the rise and tide of the White and Walden Ponds, looking at how much time it takes for the pond to rise 5 foot more, and tides for 2 feet down, making him try to observe that closely and surprisingly.

7. He describes some of the few animals that lived in the pond, being less yet better than creatures in any other water.

   • He also speaks about the shore and its view, the forest.

8. The author introduces some of the theories on the name of the pond and how it was created, including the myth that it was a hill that sank to make that pond.

   • Surprisingly, he does not oppose this idea since there are stones on surrounding hills that are like the stones on the shore of Walden.

9. Describing more about the ponds, he concludes with framing the peacefulness and beauty of this body, including that it is much better than people and their lives.
